Products Overview

Our Low Creep Mullite Brick series is a dense refractory product family engineered for the hot air furnace lining of small, medium, and large blast furnaces. The product is manufactured from synthetic mullite as the main raw material, formed under high pressure molding and high temperature firing, giving a brick with stable volume and small creep rate under prolonged high temperature conditions and supporting the hot air furnace of large and medium sized blast furnaces.

The Low Creep Mullite Brick product family is offered in five sintered-mullite grades (DRM72, DRM70, DRM65, DRM60, and DRM56) covering an Al2O3 content range of 56% to 72% and a refractoriness range of 1790 to 1830 °C. This range allows the lining designer to balance refractoriness, thermal shock resistance, and creep behaviour across the combustion chamber, checker chamber, and dome zones of the hot air furnace. The DRM72 and DRM70 grades are creep-rated at 1500 °C under 50-hour load and are recommended for the most demanding high temperature zones, while DRM65, DRM60, and DRM56 are typical workhorse grades for the intermediate and cooler lining zones of the hot air furnace lining.

Sourced from our Xinmi City, Zhengzhou, Henan, China facility, each Low Creep Mullite Brick is engineered to ASTM, GB/T, and ISO refractory standards. Product Applications

Low Creep Mullite Bricks are dense refractory bricks manufactured from synthetic mullite, engineered for the hot air furnace lining of small, medium, and large blast furnaces. The product family covers five sintered-mullite grades (DRM72, DRM70, DRM65, DRM60, and DRM56) covering an Al2O3 content range of 56% to 72% and a refractoriness range of 1790 to 1830 °C, allowing the metallurgist to match each lining zone to the optimal combination of refractoriness, thermal shock resistance, creep behaviour, and cost.

Application Industry: Refractories for the Steel Industry and the broader Metallurgical Industry.

Target Equipment: Hot Air Furnace (Cowper stove) of small, medium, and large Blast Furnaces.

Specific Lining Zones: DRM72 and DRM70 are the creep-rated grades for the combustion chamber and hottest zones of the hot air furnace. DRM65 is the workhorse grade for the combustion chamber, dome, and upper checkerwork. DRM60 is used for the sidewalls and intermediate checkerwork. DRM56 is the cost-effective grade for the lower checkerwork and cooler lining zones of the hot air furnace lining.

Product FAQ

A1: Low Creep Mullite Brick is manufactured from synthetic mullite as the main raw material, formed under high pressure molding and high temperature firing. The sintered mullite matrix gives the brick stable volume and small creep rate under high temperature and high temperature conditions, plus large heat storage capacity, supporting the hot air furnace of large and medium sized blast furnaces.

A2: A Low Creep Mullite Brick uses synthetic mullite and is supplied in the 56% to 72% Al2O3 range (DRM56 to DRM72). Compared with a Low Creep High Alumina Brick, which uses special-grade bauxite clinker and is supplied in the 48% to 85% Al2O3 range (DRL48 to DRL85), the Low Creep Mullite Brick has higher refractoriness (1790 to 1830 °C vs 1750 to 1790 °C), better thermal shock resistance (15 to 35 cycles at 1100 °C vs reference to GB/T 3995), and is the preferred grade for the upper combustion chamber and dome of the hot air furnace.

A3: The Low Creep Mullite Brick is mainly installed in the combustion chamber, dome, upper checkerwork, and sidewalls of the hot air furnace of small, medium, and large blast furnaces. DRM72 and DRM70 are recommended for the hottest zones such as the combustion chamber dome. DRM65 is the workhorse grade for the combustion chamber and upper zones. DRM60 and DRM56 are used in the intermediate and lower checkerwork where the highest refractoriness is not required.

A4: Yes. The standard size is 230 x 114 x 65 mm, but CH Refractories is a turnkey refractory engineering partner: we can manufacture any brick geometry (wedge bricks, key bricks, sidewall blocks, throat bricks, burner blocks) to match the buyer's refractory drawing. Please send the drawing to our engineering team in Xinmi City, Zhengzhou, Henan, China for a free consultation, free 3D design, and a tailored quotation.
