Products Overview

Our Continuous Casting Powders is a high-performance auxiliary refractory material engineered for continuous casting machine (CCM) of steel billet, bloom, slab, and round billet casting in steel mills. Also known as mould powder, mould flux, casting powder, or mould flux slag, this product is manufactured by Zhengzhou caihua from precisely formulated blends of mineral oxides, fluorides, and carbon raw materials. The product family serves five engineering-proven functions during continuous casting verified by IspatGuru: (i) protect liquid steel against oxidation, (ii) provide lubrication for the solidifying steel shell, (iii) control and optimize horizontal and vertical heat transfer from liquid steel to mould and ambient, (iv) absorb non-metallic inclusions from the liquid steel to produce cleaner cast steel, and (v) provide chemical protection to the liquid steel from oxidation and other undesired reactions.

The Continuous Casting Powders product family is offered in multi-grade chemistry series based on the industry-standard composition range verified by IspatGuru industry reference. The main CaO+SiO2 matrix covers around 70 percent of the total composition with CaO in the range of 22 to 45 percent and SiO2 in the range of 17 to 56 percent, with basicity ratio CaO/SiO2 normally in the range of 1.0 to 1.3 and some powder grades at 0.8. Auxiliary oxides include MgO 0-10 percent, Fe2O3 0-6 percent, Al2O3 0-13 percent, Na2O 0-25 percent, K2O 0-2 percent, Fluorine 2-15 percent, with Free Carbon 2-20 percent. The mould powder structure within the mould consists of three layers verified by DBM Steel industry reference: the original (solid) slag layer below 500 °C, the sintered layer at 600-900 °C, and the liquid slag layer at 1300-1500 °C in direct contact with the molten steel, typically 10mm-15mm thick. The product family is engineered to provide stable chemistry and consistent performance across the full continuous casting cycle from tundish to strand cutoff, with stable quality and good engineering performance across the global continuous casting value chain.

Sourced from our Xinmi City, Zhengzhou, Henan, China facility, each Continuous Casting Powders grade is engineered to ASTM, GB/T, and ISO refractory standards.
