Silica Bricks Properties for Hot Blast Stove

MARKET · GLOBAL

Silica brick is the preferred refractory material for hot blast stove domes and regenerator checkers in iron and steel industry. Special silica bricks for hot blast stoves provide exceptional refractoriness, strong volume stability, good thermal shock resistance, strong acid resistance, and high thermal conductivity — making them uniquely suited for hot blast stove service conditions up to 1600°C operating temperature.

Silica Brick Properties & Advantages

Silica provides exceptional refractoriness, enabling bricks to withstand temperatures exceeding 1600°C without deformation. Silica bricks contain a minimum of 93% silica (silicon dioxide SiO2 content), with premium grades for hot blast stove service containing 95%+ silica content. The high silica content delivers several performance advantages:

  • High Refractoriness: Refractoriness ≥1690°C, with high refractoriness under load at 1640°C or higher. Enables operation at hot blast temperatures up to 1350°C.
  • Strong Volume Stability: Minimal permanent linear change (PLC) under high-temperature service, typically ≤0.5% at 1450°C × 2 hours. Prevents cracking and dome instability.
  • Good Thermal Shock Resistance: Reversible quartz crystal transformation at 573°C produces minor volume changes without damage. Supports thermal cycling between hot blast and cold blast phases.
  • Strong Acid Resistance: Excellent resistance to acidic environments from combustion gases containing SO2 and other acidic species.
  • High Thermal Conductivity: Superior heat transfer compared to alumino-silicate bricks, improving hot blast stove efficiency.

CH Refractories Silica Brick Products

CH Refractories supplies premium silica bricks specifically engineered for hot blast stove service:

  • Silica Brick for Hot Blast Stoves — Premium grade silica brick for dome and combustion chamber service. Verified at Jiugang 1080 m³ and Fujian Dingxin hot blast stove projects.
  • Common Silica Brick — Standard grade for upper regenerator checker and general high-temperature applications.

Hot Blast Stove Zone-by-Zone Selection

Different hot blast stove zones demand different silica brick specifications:

  1. Dome (Highest Temperature, 1500-1600°C): Premium silica brick with silica content ≥96%, low Fe2O3 content (≤0.5%), and excellent refractoriness under load. CH Refractories’ Silica Brick for Hot Blast Stoves is engineered for this critical zone.
  2. Combustion Chamber: Silica brick with good thermal shock resistance to handle on-off cycling and combustion gas fluctuations.
  3. Regenerator Checker (Mid Temperature): Common silica brick or checkered checker bricks optimized for high heat storage capacity.
  4. Regenerator Upper Zone: Standard silica brick or high-alumina brick depending on temperature profile.

Coke Oven & Glass Tank Applications

Beyond hot blast stoves, silica bricks also serve other high-temperature applications:

  • Coke Ovens: Silica brick for coke oven walls and regenerator flues, providing thermal stability and carbon deposition resistance.
  • Glass Furnace Regenerators: Premium silica brick for glass furnace regenerator crowns and upper checker zones.
  • Acid-Resistant Applications: Sulfuric acid plant chimneys, acid storage tanks, and other acidic environment applications.
