Water-Based Taphole Clay
Application Industry: Refractories for Steel Industry
Application Equipment: Blast Furnace Taphole (Tapping Hole), Iron Runner Mud
Size: Standard taphole diameter per blast furnace (custom formulation on request)
Products Overview
Our Water-Based Taphole Clay is a refractory taphole mud manufactured from corundum, alumina-silica based materials, SiC, and coke as the main raw materials, water-bonded for traditional blast furnace taphole service. The product family delivers good filling-up, easy installation, easy sintering, easy opening, and good erosion resistance under the harsh Blast Furnace Taphole service environment.
The Water-Based Taphole Clay product family is offered as a single chemistry grade with alumina content of 25 percent or higher, silicon-carbide-plus-carbon content of more than 25 percent, and a moisture content of 18.0 percent. The grade delivers bulk density of 1.40 to 1.80 g/cm³, cold crushing strength of 6.0 MPa or higher, and apparent porosity of 40.0 percent or less after 1350 °C for 3 hours, and permanent linear change of plus or minus 1 percent in the same test condition.
Sourced from our Xinmi City, Zhengzhou, Henan, China facility, each Water-Based Taphole Clay is engineered to ASTM, GB/T, and ISO refractory standards. Product FAQ
A1: Water-Based Taphole Clay is a water-bonded refractory taphole mud manufactured from corundum, alumina-silica based materials, SiC, and coke as the main raw materials, developed according to different furnace capacity and operating habits. The product family delivers good filling, easy opening, improved environment in front of the furnace, and stable iron mouth, ensuring high-yield blast furnace operation and reducing the working intensity in front of the furnace.
A2: Water-Based Taphole Clay uses water as the binding agent with moisture content of 18.0 percent and alumina content of 25 percent or higher, suitable for traditional Blast Furnace taphole service where water-bonded formulations are acceptable. Waterless Taphole Clay uses tar as the binding agent with moisture content below 0.5 percent and alumina content of 25 percent or higher, designed for Blast Furnace operations that require higher-temperature resistance and lower moisture. Both products deliver good filling-up and easy opening under blast furnace taphole service.
A3: Water-Based Taphole Clay is tested at 1350 °C for 3 hours for Bulk Density, Cold Crushing Strength, Apparent Porosity, and Permanent Linear Change. After 1350 °C for 3 hours, Bulk Density reaches 1.40 to 1.80 g/cm³, Cold Crushing Strength reaches 6.0 MPa, Apparent Porosity is 40.0 percent or less, and Permanent Linear Change is plus or minus 1 percent.
A4: Yes. CH Refractories offers custom formulation and moisture optimization against the buyer's specific blast furnace capacity, taphole diameter, and operating habits (including tap frequency and iron flow rate). Please send the blast furnace capacity, taphole diameter, and tap cycle data to our engineering team in Xinmi City, Zhengzhou, Henan, China for a free consultation, on-site technical support, and a tailored taphole clay formulation proposal.
